6 minutes + 4 reps (subbed 115# = the porch)
I was shooting for a goal of 7 minutes. I think I may drop down to 95# next time and shoot for 8 rounds. If I get that, maybe I'll go back to 115#.
I wouldn't be too discouraged, Matt. There are certain things that you have really increased on (i.e. shoulder stuff). Everybody's stronger in one thing than another. Shit, I was stuck at 305 for like 4 months before I got 315, and now I'm back down to 285. If you were built like Carlin, it would probably be a lot easier to go up on this stuff. I doubt you're doing anything wrong.
As for the Zone, I did it in college while lifting 3 times a week (like normal 10, 8, 6 rep sets of typical freeweight exercises with a push day, pull day, and leg day) and running 3 times a week for 3 miles. I lost weight, but did not really get the strength gains I had hoped for. I don't think it works that well and it's a pain in the ass to keep track of. I only kept it up for about 3 months.
Thanks for the recommendations the other day on the protein increase. I won't know about my strength gains for a while, but I've put on a solid pound to pound and a half in the past week, even with a hiking trip over the weekend. I hope this will translate on the weightlifting.
I'm not looking forward to the 10K tomorrow. It will be my first attempt ever at a distance over 4 miles. I'm shooting for anything under 70 minutes.
