I have now completely bought in to the Brand X intensity philosophy. I'm going to scale things low and go as hard as I can. Part of this is due to the significant time improvements I've seen lately. The rest is due to what my new fitness monitor is telling me. By way of some complicated algorithm, in addition to age, weight, and fitness rating (which it actually suggested I lower by 0.5 the other day), it outputs the training effect of each workout on a scale of 0-5 with 0.1 increments. I have noticed that the training effect is always higher for days that I scale lower and finish quicker. This corresponds with the idea of overall intensity sustained for the entire workout having a better effect than weight or reps. So, for today, it seemed that 20:00 was a good goal for this WOD. I scaled accordingly and went hard to get it. I think it served me better than a 30:00 workout doing the porch scaling.
