Talked to the guy here that runs Triathalons, today about my technique. Looks like your legs should almost fully extend at the end of each peddle, which I did not do. This is the most common reason why you would only feel the workout in the quad, which is the only place I felt it. So I was doing it wrong.

Sorry I didn't mention anything about leg position, P. You seem to ride the exercise bike more than me. Whenever you set your seat height on a bike, it should be set so that the leg is essentially fully extended at the bottom of the stroke, just like your buddy said. It feels harder when you start out because your quads are so much stronger than your other leg muscles, but will make it easier later on as you take advantage of the leverage when your quads are getting tired.
